Halloween Moments

Dear 13 year old Son,

It 100% sucks that your friend ditched you tonight and went trick or treating with his other friends.

I cant help but feel thankful, though. After 2 years of you taking off and going with friends, this momma got one more Halloween with both kids.

At the end of the night, after candy was sorted, traded and inspected, I hugged both kids tight and took in one of the last moments of your Halloween childhood. We don’t know how long we get to do this stuff. Parents don’t get a text warning us of a countdown. Its in our heads how many Halloweens, Christmases, Birthdays, etc you are contractually obligated to share with us before it becomes your choice… and even then, it isn’t a guarantee that we will get that many.

Thank you for acting like you didn’t see my tears.

I just wanted to take in one more perfect Halloween. ….before I sneak into your candy haul and wreck the fun πŸŽƒ

Love,

Mom

PS. Dont be too hard on your sister. She sometimes feels overlooked while we deal with you marching toward your freedom and independence.

Cheers to all the mommas staring down the barrel of Teenhood. I wouldnt trade him for his toddler self, but this is about the time it really starts flying by. πŸ₯‚
